The Ferry

We had a brilliant time playing at The Ferry on Sunday. It was our first gig for a while so we were all pretty excited after a busy summer recording and mixing our latest EP and rehearsing with the newest member of the Razors - guitarist Phil Rasmussen. It was his first gig with us and he totally smashed it! We also loved playing with the incredible Berry Tweed & The Chasers who put on a great show. It was great to see so many people up dancing, including many mini-razors, although it was slightly disconcerting to see so many of them singing along to our songs... particularly Dr Gelati & the Lemon Garden!

It was the first time for a while that we have managed to get all 11 of us together. We took the oppportunity to give a brand new song its first live outing and we thought "Partners In Crime" sounded great. Impressive efforts from Elaine & Soozie who pretty much perfected their vocal parts during soundcheck!

Our next gig is in Paisley as part of The Spree Festival. LNP Promotions have asked us to be part of their ModStuff event on Saturday the 10th of October at the incredible Spiegeltent. There are 3 bands performing between 12pm - 5pm and we are very excited to be playing in such a beautiful and iconic venue. Come along and check us out as we are planning a blistering set for the Paisley folk and we reckon this venue will suit us down to the ground... did we mention it is FREE?

Stay tuned also for lots of information coming about our EP launch on Fri the 27th of November. It will be at STEREO in Glasgow & we will be joined by the amazing SUPA & Da Kryptonites. Tickets are just £6 and you can get them NOW... drop us a line on the contacts page here or see any of us at a gig! The first single - Motowns Lost Its Soul - will be dropping very soon so keep your ears & eyes open for that...

Hope to see you all in Paisley on the 10th of Oct!

Specialized 4

Posted on 20 September, 2015 at 0:05 Comments comments (0)

We were pretty excited to recently be asked to contribute a song to the Specialized 4 album of 2015. This year the theme is "The Clash" and with an enormous back catalogue of songs we eventually choose a tune that Joe Strummer recorded with his band The Mescalaros - Johnny Appleseed. The album has now been released and has 70 different Clash songs from bands around the world. All the proceeds from the sale of the album go to the Teenage Cancer Trust and to the Youth Music Foundation. Both really worthwhile causes. You can find out more about Specialized and buy the album - This is Combat Cancer - here.

As an added bonus, we have also been invited to play at Specialized 4 - The Big One Festival - that takes place every year in Dorset. We will be playing on Sat the 14th of Nov and if you want to join us, there are a handful of tickets left for the festival. All the details can be found here.

2014 was Amazing! 2015 starts with Hard Rock Rising

Posted on 18 January, 2015 at 13:25 Comments comments (0)

A little bit later than planned but big thanks to all our fans for the support in 2014, you helped make it one of the biggest years for The Cut Throat Razors!

We finished 2014 with a performance at the Oxjam Glasgow Takeover Music Festival on Sauchiehall Street in October supporting the brilliant headliners Colonel Mustard & the Dijon 5, a performance at the wonderful Cottiers Theatre in the Glasgow West End in November and Christmas number 1 on the Richer Unsigned chart.

Some other highlights of 2014 include winning the Best Unsigned Band 2014 award, opening the main stage at Wickerman Festival, having our debut TV live performance on STV Glasgow Riverside show and headlining the Oxjam Glasgow Takeover Launch at Nice ‘n’ Sleazy’s.

A lot of this wouldn’t have happened without our fans support, thanks!

2015 is set to be a great year for the band and we start with entering into the Hard Rock Rising unsigned band competition hosted by Hard Rock and sponsored by Xfm. The competition is a global search for the next big emerging act and the prize includes the chance to play in front of 60,000 music fans in Barcelona!

Up until the January 26th the amount of social media attention we get using the hashtag #HardRockRising contributes to our chance of being selected for the local heats which would include performing at the Hard Rock Cafe in Glasgow in front of a local panel of music judges and local music fans.

So join us on Facebook and Twitter. You can support by retweeting our tweets, mentioning #HardRockRising in posts, sharing our Facebook content and tagging Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow and us.

New songs on the way and first gig on 2015 announced very soon.

The Razors on the telly

Tomorrow night we make our TV debut playing the wonderful Riverside Show on STV Glasgow. We are playing three songs:

She's My Baby;

Motown's Lost Its Soul;

All completely live. The only sad note is that they can't fit all ten of us on stage, so it will be a slightly smaller line-up but still big enough to rock the studio.

King Tuts

King Tuts is always a great gig and Friday's was no exception. Great to see the brilliant Trongate Rum Riots and the wonderful Junkman's Choir. I love bands that really make an effort to dress up and perform and those two were top notch.

The crowd was fantastic - most of them had never seen us before but we were really well received. were the barriers about in front of the stage?? It has kind of lost part of its charm and intimacy. Mind you, I did see Terry Hall play there many years ago. He was doing his solo stuff - beautiful songs and very understated with cello players and accoustic guitars. Then this guy comes and goes straight up and stands right in front of Mr. Hall, whose mental health issues are well documented.

- Hey Terry, seeing as yer in Glesga whit aboot a wee Specials number?

Terry Hall sung the rest of the set from behind the bass amp.

Thanks to everyone who came along to see us and those who didn't but were pleasantly suprised by what they saw.

We had a great night at Nice 'N' Sleazy's on 8th August headling the Oxjam Takeover event with Ferridy and One Last Secret. Great crowd, great venue and great cause raising almost £800. Nice laso to see a couple of young Mods in the audience (get in touch boys!). We also played with a couple of additions to the Razor Clanship: Lesley Robertson on sax and George Fleming on Trumpet.

A couple of guys from the Razors will be appearing on STV Glasgow on Thursday 7th August. As part of the promotion for the Oxjam season of fundraising events to help eradicate global poverty, Scott and Stewart will be in the STV studio with the lovely people from Oxjam talking about the opening night at Nice 'N' Sleazy's Glasgow where The Razors are headlining.

The guys will be on The Riverside Show at 6.45pm.

Auf Wiedersehen, Pet

As you may know Claire, our sax player, has been on maternity leave and has been covered by the more-than-capable Katie Maclure. Alas, Katie is moving on to begin an exciting new life in the wonderful city of Hamburg. She bowed out in style with a rollicking performance on the Main Stage at Wickerman.

Good luck, Katie.

PS The sax duties will be taken up by Lesley Robertson at our gig at Nice 'N' Sleazy's on 8th August.
